This town of just over 2,000 inhabitants started off as a look out post and relief station for traveling merchants back when the elves were more untrusting and the forest and the forest was dangerous. It was populated by soldiers of the crown originally, but soon after adventurers traveled out there to try and convince merchants to hire them as guards. They figured that after making it through halfway they would know how badly they were needed. Since it was such an efficient short cut, and was so widely used, more and more adventurers came, some even building homes. Eventually merchants came only have way through and all their merchandise was sold tot he guards and adventurers, so people created shops and the town grew. Now the forest is safer but monsters and bandits are still quite common. There are still some elves that refuse to allow humans and other races in their forests and take it upon themselves to raid merchant caravans using guerrilla tactics.
